Pumping milk.. How early to start?

How early did u mommys start pumping milk for when your out and on the go with baby?? I'm just curious cuz my daughter is a week old but sometimes I just feel like it's hard to breast feed out in public... And I don't want her getting so used to bottle feeding versus breastfeeding..... 🤔💭💭💭

They say to start as soon as you get home. I didn't and now I'm wishing I would have to have a better stash for my LO for when I go back to work. It's also easier if you have to give your baby a bottle and you already have some.

I had to start the day my son was born because he was in the NICU but you aren't supposed to start until about 4-6 weeks because it can create oversupply.

I have a 1 month old daughter. I wish I would've started the second I came home from the hospital. The breastfeeding counselor nurse told me over and over not pump because my body would think I was feeding 2 babies. I became engorged but refused to pump because i was afraid of an over supply and having to continually pump.

...BUT i didnt know my baby wasn''t able to transfer the milk from my breast. I didn't know until she was 12 days that her significant weight loss would lead me to have to supplement with formula. I went to a lactation consultant who weighed my baby and said she is only getting .5 oz from both breasts. Well, long story short she was FINALLY referred to a specialist about a possible tongue tie I pointed out 2 weeks ago. I can only pump about .5 oz from each breast and it takes forever.

If I could go back in time I would definitely start pumping sooner! ! I'd much rather have an over supply than my under supply issues!!! I want to go back in time and scream at myself to pump and pump and pump more. That way I could supplement with breastmilk instead of the nasty, stinky formula!

I started pumping at 4 weeks off and on, not every feeding, because that is when we introduced the bottle. Now I pump every time I nurse, my baby is 11 weeks and takes a bottle without a problem
