Non medicated vs medicated birth?

Question

I have been researching birthing non medicated vs medicated. Everything I'm seeing has said after non medicated the release of endorphins makes you feel great and also this route seems to be a faster labor. For mom that have delivered this way what was your experience? Also I'm terrified I will tear and have that pain on top of labor pain...  For medicated birth... I'm terrified of needles, I have also heard most people's back hurts weeks or even months after deliver. I am open to both and have pretty much decided to see how it goes during labor but I would love to hear opinions from both sides.

I had two epidural a, one that worked awesome and one that only took for a couple hours. I didn't have any pain after my epidurals. However, you just have to do what's best for you and I agree with another post that said it depends on your pain tolerance. I have a high pain tolerance but back labor was more than I could handle. Thankfully that epidural took. My second was up front labor and it wasn't so bad. Much more manageable than the back labor. I say if you think you want to do natural go for it. You can always change your mind during labor. It doesn't make you a failure of you get medicated.

From what my mom told me and what I've read, non-medicated births usually have a faster recovery time. And that's what's most important to me!

I had an epidural with my first....23 and a hlaf hours of labor, threw up like 6 times from the medication, and couldnt labor the way it felt natural because of the epidural. 
This time ae are planning an all natural, medication free labor and delivery 😄
Everyone is different and tolerates pain different.

I've only had one bubba and I lasted 12 hours after my waters broke before asked for an epidural. I was extremely nervous and scared and made myself nearly sick from the gas I was inhaling when the needle was going in. I had heard horror stories about giant elephantine needles, it's true they're long but very thin & just like any other needle or shot. After that my pain melted away and I actually got some sleep, the nurses and my OB turned it down twice, but it still wasn't enough because my son came very quickly once he was ready. I couldn't lift my legs so my OB had one & my BF the other. I had to have an episiotomy which I didn't actually know about until my bf told me once we were in the hospital room. From beginning to push to holding my son, it was less than 9 mins and I got to hug and hold and love my son while the OB & midwives did whatever they needed to do. I was wheeled to my room in a wheelchair & by that afternoon I was able to walk & I felt amazing. Pain wasn't too bad at all, I did have to have a catheter though which the nurses took out after a few days.

The nervous face of someone who's been awake for nearly 24 hours & about to get an epidural whilst having a contraction:

Less than 9 mins and about 6-10 pushes later mummy has her son :D

I had a non medicated birth but not by choice, it was just something hat happened unexpectedly. I gave birth at 33 weeks and by the time I got to the hospital there was no time for any meds (and yes I did ask) I would say non medicated was best because the birth process was fast and the pain was gone like immediately after I pushed her out. I did get about five stitches, nothing major. I healed very well I was up walking around a few hours later

I had an epidural but it never took.  So I felt everything.  The needle wasn't bad especially if you never look at it.  My back never hurt because of it.  Next time I'll do all unmedicated because I know I can donor with out and that it didn't work for me last time.

I've had 4 natural unmediated births. This will be 5. I chose not to get it cause I wanted to feel closer to my babies and do the most natural for them. My labors are only 5-6hours from start to finnish. And to me I think they have gotten easier because i,know what I'm doing and how to,listen to my body. But I Damn sure,know that if I had a 18hr labor I would,be getting somthing lol but I can't get a spinal tap with a slip disk I don't wanna mess with anything,back there.

I think that decision should be based on your pain tolerance.... I had my son non medicated when I was 19, and I'll tell you, that labor and pushing pain is absolutely no joke...I have a pretty high tolerance, but I trembled, I cried, I vomited.. I just wanted it to be over with.  But after the kid comes out, you do feel like 80% better, and back to regular like nothing ever happened. Lol I do think with Medication you do get to enjoy and embrace the labour process a little more.

I was just like you with my first pregnancy. I was researched everything about medicated versus nonmedicated. Where I live if you have pitocin they make you get an epidural (well my doctor and we only have one in this town). I was so against it for so long. 
It was WONDERFUL! Getting it wasn't particularly fun because I waited until 5cm with pitocin contractions and those HURT. My natural contractions where manageable. I was so thankful for the epidural because I was able to enjoy the birthing process and the pushing process. After I had no pain or issues at all!! Never would have even been able to tell you I had one. The tape left behind was sticky and a pain haha but the nurses helped me clean it off. I now am expecting and will do it for this one also. 
I prefer to enjoy the process than to be in pain to prove a point to myself lol

I'm 9 days pp and I wound up getting an epidural. I went in thinking I would try and go non medicated for as long as possible but I was induced and heard that can be worse than going into natural labor. Once my water was broken I lasted about an hour before I asked for the epidural because baby those contractions are no joke! My back did hurt for a few days but like I said I'm 9 days pp and my back doesn't hurt any more.
