Myy husbands name is William. He goes by will or William. His dad's name is also william. He goes by Billy.  And my grandpa  who has recently passed away was also william but he went by bill.  I want to name my son William but with a different middle name. & call him liam

I think it's nice to pass on a family name. And if you choose to shorten it to a part of his name where there won't be any confusion do it! He's your baby and you get to name him. Personally, because I don't like shortening names or going by middle names, I'd just call him William. I told my husband when we named our son if I wanted to call him by his middle name I would've made it his first name, but that's my choice and everybody respects my wishes in regards to my child's name. If anybody says it's too many Williams tell them once they have a kid they can name them whatever they want and you'll respect their choice because it is their child and you would expect the same when it comes to yours.

William is my grandfather's name. He goes by Bill, but everyone calls him Poppop. Many family members have the name William and everyone goes by something different;

Omg both my grandfather's names are robert so I'm naming my son after them but he will be going by Liam which will be his middle name.
