How long after water breaks does your doctor induce?

My doctor this morning said they will only wait FOUR hours after water breaking to start pitocin. That seems like s ridiculously short amount of time to let our bodies do what they were made to do. I was so shocked it makes me want to wait as long as possible before even calling my OB in the first place. Can anyone provide insight or share their thoughts? Would be much appreciated!

The reason they don't wait long than 4 hours because from.the time your water breaks they have about 24 hours to.deliver the baby without fear of infection .. if you go longer it's considered "prolonged labor" (only if your water has been broken) and then they usually have to treat the baby with over antibiotics when it is born rather then risk the baby contracting an infection and turning septic .. a lot of drs if you have been laboring with a ruptured water for 24 hours will take for a c-section if you have had little to no progression at all

4 hrs to start induction is reasonable - inductions can take a long time and you're on a clock once the water breaks.

That said, starting via pitocin seems like overkill. They could easily start with Cervadil or other gentler meds to see of your body takes over naturally. If not, then at least your body is more receptive to the pitocin.

Back in 2009 when I had my little boy my water broke at 2:45 am and I got to the hospital around 4 am (it was an hour away from my house). They started pitocin at 7:30 am. I wish I would have waited a little longer to go in. I was dialating but they weren't painful so they started me on it. They never gave me the option to walk around or anything. I was just laying on my back and they were like well let's start pitocin. I'm going with a birthing center that is attached to the hospital this time, hoping I don't have to be on pitocin this time around.

My water broke at 2am and i didnt have him till 4pm that same day. 
That does seem very short. My SIL
Just had her first  and she got potsin around the 12hr mark because she was not dilating

My doctor said if my water breaks then ill have a c-section at the 24 hour mark so the 4 hours for pitocin seems normal unless you sre having consistent contractions.
