Car seat/infant carrier?

Okay, so I'm kind of torn between two things. I don't know if I should buy a car seat that is a 4 in 1 ($139) and is not an infant carrier or buy and car seat that is an infant carrier ($59) and by the 4 different car seats as I need them when she grows out of the carrier.

Any suggestions or opinions are welcome. What have other moms done or are doing or plan on doing?

My husband and I are confused and want to be as cost efficient as possible.

I'm getting the carrier because it fits on our stroller and by the time she grows out of it hopefully we will have another on the way!

My mom bought us the 4-1 car seat and while I'd love to have a infant carrier it's so much cheaper in the long run.

I hated carrying the infant carrier with my first. I'm small and by the time she was 4 months old, I could barely lift it. We switched to a convertible then.

This time, we're borrowing an infant carrier from a friend for the first few months (heavy winters here and it really is easier with a newborn). After that, we'll invest in a Britax convertible.

Infant carrier was nice to have when baby was sleeping (which is most of the day) I could just pull the carrier out of the base in the car and go without waking him.  We eventually got the 4 in1 once he outgrew the infant carrier... He used the 4 in 1 up until this year!  He's 8

I'm planning to get the maxi cosi pria 70 with tiny fit. It fits even preemies all the way to big kid. I think it's the most cost efficient because you will not need to buy another car seat as the baby gets older.
