Female Doctor vs Male Doctor preference?

Question

I just booked my second doctor's appointment for week 13. And I am SO excited because I have a female doctor for this appointment (whom I might request for my future appointments if I can and she seems alright). I live in a small town and we have crappy enough medical care access as is (our only medical clinic is attached to the hospital. A hospital, I should add, that doesn't even do births, hubby will have to drive me 45 minutes to the next town to give birth) that I didn't think I'd even have the option of a female doctor. And I'm kind of uncomfortable with talking to a male doctor about my pregnancy stuff (really awkward my first appointment when we were talking about my last menstrual period and ovulation and all that stuff...) I know I shouldn't feel weird about it... But I do. And I don't want a male doctor doing my pap smear among other things... So I'm just happy that they had a female doctor was available despite the limited access in my town. ☺

How does everyone else feel about a female vs male doctor/obgyn?

I've been with two practices through 3 babies now.  It's been my experience that the male doctors are more patient and have more compassion than the female doctors.

I don't care honestly, as long as they know what they're doing, make me feel comfortable during my exams and don't make rude remarks I don't mind male or female. I've had both and loved both.

Ive had both, I was like you at first too but my gilrfriend recommended her gyno to me and he's a guy and I couldn't be happier with him! He's also my OB which is nice too plus my husband likes him too! lol I actually like him better than the female I had  before, he makes me feel super comfortable buts its all in what makes you comfortable!!

I saw my doctor tonight as I have endometriosis and needed some painkillers has I had run out and also to ask for another blood test to see if I'm ovulating and he was quite happy to send me to get bloods done, the female doctors told me because I had already had bloods done there was no point! Also asked him about referring us back to the fertility clinic to start our IVF journey but there are certain criteria you have to fit to have a cycle on the NHS in the U.K and mine is that my BMI is a bit high, but he was fantastic and said because I had lost some of my BMI and we have been trying so long he would be happy to refer us in special circumstances, which has given me some hope! X

I always wanted female, but at my fertility clinic most were male.

I find them more careful with examinations and for some reason more understanding when talking about issues or when having doubts.

I personally feel women brush it of easier as 'you are just pregnant get a grip I've done that without a problem' and examinations are more, 'let's get this over with'.

I know how you feel. I refuse to have a male doctor. I was in active labor and left because they only had male doctors on call. Went to another hospital and they had midwives so they checked me (all females) and I was comfortable. Do whatever makes YOU comfortable. Don't force yourself to be okay with a male doctor if you're not.

I was pregnant last year and I had a woman Dr who was foreign. I could not understand her when she spoke. She was very rough with the vaginal ultrasound and actually caused me to bleed. And when she told me I was having a miscarriage she was very insensitive and just said "Must be in the air. I'll schedule DnC for today." I refused and went home. I had a natural miscarriage and I passed everything without problems. 
This pregnancy, I have a female. She's better (being that she is american and speaks great English) its just I spend more time with the nurses or ultrasound techs and I've only had contact with her for a total of 15 mins through both of the appointments I've had. But she is quite gentle and very very good with telling me everything she is doing and when. 
I've never had a Male Gyn.

My ob with my first child was a man. He was wonderful until he gave me an episiotomy without my consent. And then he was a total ass when I had a mc a couple years later. I never went back to him.

I'm a super private person so a female dr to me is more comfortable.

This is just my personal opinion. I prefer a woman OB. They are mothers too,usually . They have been through it. And I just feel more comfortable w a female.
