Lunch meat?

A lot of people have their different opinions on eating lunch meat while pregnant... I just had lunch meat for lunch today & it was only a day old... Is that okay? What are your opinions on it ?

If it didn't make you sick before why all the worry now?

I have eaten it throughout both my pregnancies and have had no problems. You can get listeria from anything, for example the recent outbreaks in bluebell ice cream and frozen foods from traders joes. That being said I do try to eat mostly nitrate free lunch meats like boars head.

It's fine. I had lunch meat in sandwiches everyday for months in my pregnancy while I was working. I always buy the cheapest kind at the store too. Ive had subway many times also, and my baby is doing great.

I've read that most lunch meats are treated with a solution which makes them less susceptible to dangerous bacteria...but I've also read that to be safe you can microwave (or otherwise heat the meat to 160+ degrees) to kill bacteria.
So...not sure. I've eaten hot subs a couple of times, but not cold ones.

It had nitrites in it which aren't good for anyone. It's fine in moderation.

I personally wouldn't eat turkey or chicken lunch meats, but don't worry about listeria from other sorts so long as it has been properly stored. The chances of getting listeria from ham or cured meats are lower than for fresh fruit and veg.

I did with my first, but this time I couldn't even stomach making her lunches for school. Even touching the lunch meat made me gag. It was so weird. It was easy for me to not eat it. I don't remember my doctor advising against it the first time, but they definitely did the second time.
