Rules?

Im a first time mom and i want some rules followed i know my baby isnt here yet but im getting things ready specially with a overbearing needs a input in everything mother in law and sister in law

The rule about kids visiting in the hospital should already be taken care of. Almost all hospitals won't allow babies/kids that are not siblings into the maternity ward.

The waiting your turn, and asking people to sit is overboard. Adults know better and we don't need to be told everything. I'm sure most of the people that will hold baby will be experienced parents and will remember how anxious you are and will automatically do these things.

Wait your turn? Your baby isn't an animal at a zoo that everyone's waiting to pet. I get that they do want to hold the baby but then again it's not like they're going to be ripping the baby out of each other's arms...... Same for the feeding one, not like they're gonna rip them out of your arms while they're eating. I think people know when not to cross the line on certain things.....

I so understand where you are coming from and I agree with many of your rules. I'm not writing a rules list as I feel it will cause more drama than making it a conversation. Right now I am just letting my Hubby define the lines for his family (as they are the overbearing ones) gradually in the months before baby gets here so they know what to expect. And we are having no visitors at the hospital.

We are letting people know before hand that while we will welcome visitors AT HOME we want to settle a bit before we get overwhelmed with people and then people can come if they give us a heads up and we approve. No one will touch baby unless hands are washed and there will be rules for smokers but those aren't quite finalized until later when I have a conversation with my doctor about what rules are reasonable for the risk. There may also be vaccination requirements but once again I will be speaking to my doctor about that later as to what is reasonable for the risk. And I will address problem behaviors as they arise as necessary. I don't like stepping on toes but I have no problem being Nazi-Mom when baby gets here if I need to be. If people are smoking close to my baby, kiss my baby on the lips, are fighting over baby or showing up unannounced I will lose my shit on them so fast and shut that down. I'm hoping with the expectations we are gradually laying out in the months leading up to baby being born though, we won't need to worry about it.

I thought I had some crazy rules but this is intense. If this is what u need to feel calm and like your protecting your child then fair enough but be careful not to alienate people. Some of these things should be s given, u shouldn't need to write them down and asking politely at the time of the situation is a far more friendly than writing a list for everyone. If I was given this list I would back off and sit on the sidelines rather than get involved with u and your new family. What ever u decide... Good luck.

Being straight with you here - this will most likely tick a lot of people off to the point they won't even bother seeing you or the baby. Even the closest of family/friends. If that's your goal, then go for it. Otherwise you just have to learn to lighten up. I definitely understand where you're coming from, but you're making it so that people are going to feel like they can't even be relaxed and that you don't WANT them near baby. An on edge person holding your baby is a lot more dangerous than a relaxed one! Just handle these things as they come up. You will probably be surprised that very few of these things are even an issue! (People may show up without warning even if you specifically say not to, that type of thing). If John comes in smelling like smoke, just tell him you'd prefer he didn't hold the baby right after smoking. If Aunt Sally and Aunt Jane are wrestling over the baby, tell them you would like to hold your baby again. Also, babies are sooo much more tough than you're thinking. I promise!
