What to expect on first ob/gyn appointment?

What is the process of the very first appointment? I know there will be a sonogram and I am going to see the doc. Is it a transvaginal US or one on the stomach? Also is there a pelvic exam?

Blood draws, Pap smear, internal exam, and then if you're far enough along (8-10 weeks) doc may try to check baby's heartbeat. When I had my first appointment she couldn't detect a heartbeat using the fetal Doppler so she used an ultrasound machine, which was cool because my hubby was there and got to see our tiny little one moving around :)

Pelvic exam. Offered prenatal vitamins. Was given a script to go get ultrasound transvaginal.

My first appointment I had a transvaginal ultrasound, I was 6 weeks at the time. And then they just checked my blood pressure and weighed me. Then I had to talk to this lady for a while and she gave me free stuff and I had to sign a bunch of papers and she basically told me what was gonna happen for now on.

Depending on how far along you are it may be transvaginal. Mine was a transvaginal at 8 weeks but I'm also heavier. I also had a pelvic exam and had a Pap smear done but I was due for one anyways. So it really depends on the doctor I guess.
