What birth control would you recommend for a 16 year old?

I'm 16 and my boyfriend and I are sexually active. We use condoms, because neither of us want an unexpected pregnancy, especially at this age, but I do want to go on birth control as well to ease my mind. I was on depo for a few months and it made me unbelievably sick, so that is no longer an option.

I'm glad you stopped depo it's terrible for you! If you can remember to take it the pill is a good option and if you want something more low maintence there's the iud or the implant!

I would recommend starting on the pill so you know how your body reacts to the hormones. That way if you don't respond well you can stop immediately. But if it goes well, I would recommend the implant! It's way less maintenance but a bigger ordeal to get off of it

I agree with Toni. Depo is all round bad for everyone.
The pill is a good starter option, because there are 100s of brands, hormones and doses, you're more likely to find a fit.
You could also try the dermal patch or vaginal ring, which are similar to combination pills, in they they contain progestin and esotrogen.

Low maintainance options are the implant and the IUD. The implant lasts 3 years, and IUDs last 3-5 years.

I'm 17 and have the implant and honestly it was the best decision I ever made and would really suggest you get that - people's experiences with it tend to vary but so far mine and everyone I have spoken to who has it has been great ☺️

So glad you stopped depo!! God that is the worst form I'm not sure how it's even legal. Miscarried so many times throughout the 9 month span I was on it and bled for 6 of the 9 months straight. Then after getting off of it was sterile for a little over two years. I'd suggest an IUD. Pills are unreliable and with an IUD, pregnancy is very rare.

I got nexplanon it's the implant. I'm 15 but it's actually really good I don't even get my period anymore but everyone's different
