Hiring a doula? Opinions?

Hi all!

I'm wondering if any of you have decided to hire a doula for the birth or if you have worked with one in previous births. I would love some insight to help make the decision!

My husband and I are currently in the interview stage of hiring a doula. My husband is pretty skeptical about it still but I would definitely like one since I'm not doing a midwife. This is our first baby!

I am! They have shown great outcomes for women who have all varieties of births. :)

I've heard they are totally worth it. I won't be only because my mom is very doula like lol except with some tough love which u need so my mom will be there. But I've heard good things about doulas

The birth center i go to has a doula dating night where you can meet lots at one time. Sadly I work that night. But I did get some business cards from the birth center and I have an appt with one this week.

I'm trying for a vbac. My best friend is a doula, so she is doing and class and doula services for free. I'm excited to have her and my husband in the room.

I'd love to have a doula but I can't seem to justify the expense. The $1400 it costs in my area is enough to buy me an extra month of maternity leave. But if I could, I TOTALLY would.

I had a doula for my first baby and it was fantastic. For this pregnancy my hubby has already asked me "so have you talked to Rachael (our doula) yet?". We will definitely hire her again. I highly recommend getting a doula. They're like your fairy birthing godmother.
