Induced labor causing c-section??

Question

So im 39 weeks on Saturday and my doctor gave me the option of being induced on Sunday,, i had my firstborn naturally so the whole idea of being induced is new to me, ive heard that when you become induced you have more possibility of having a c-section and I really want to avoid that. Should i go ahead and get induced or should i just let the baby come when he's ready??

Really it's whatever you're more comfortable with. There are pros and cons with every case scenario. I've had three friends go in for an induction and come out with a c section, but I've also had a family member let the baby come on its own and end up in the NICU because she released her meconium in the womb, and ended up with pneumonia and other things that go hand in hand with being in there for too long. Personally I would prefer being induced on my due date and risk having a c section over risking what my cousins daughter had happen. Do your research, and decide what you are most comfortable with :) don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise because everyone has their own beliefs on how things should be done.

Watch the Business of Being Born! Great documentary that shows how some inductions can lead to a c-section. I personally never would unless medically necessary because pitocin can cause your body to go into labor too fast, and put the baby in danger.

Are you dilated or effaced at all? Most failed inductions are from a total lack of natural labor progression beforehand. Seeing as you've had a child before as long as your body is prepping for labor you should be successful. On that same note I personally have natural labors with no pain meds and the one time I chose to be induced was a million times worse of labor pains for me than natural labor. If you get the epidural this won't be an issue for you of course. I personally would try nipple stimulation, orgasms, and other natural induction methods before I touch pitocin again unless medically necessary, but that's just me.
