Why pack and play?

Question

I've seen a lot of posts recommending a pack and play instead of a bassinet.   Why is it so highly recommended? Because it's portable for traveling?

*insert old lady vibrating voice* Back in my day, pack and plays were called play pens and they were for older babies to play while mommy and daddy did house chores or go to places where you dont want your baby crawling off to keep them safe. You threw in some toys with the baby and they are happy. Now, they are so much advanced with changing tables, sleeping tables and some even vibrate and play music! I love it and wish they were like this when my older children were itty bitty. Now 20, 16 and 13

Well, most come with the bassinet portion, the changing table, a little storage and even the actual "crib" portion. Babies grow out of bassinets so fast it can be a waste of money! A pack and play can be used for the first year or so. Going outside to plant? Pack n play. Going to grandma's house? Pack n play. They are a little taller than a crib (the bed portion) so it's also nice to shorties like me. Haha

We chose a pack and play because it's portable, it's bigger, so baby won't grow out of it, and ours has a changing table attachment thing that a lot seem to have now a days so we can even change baby there instead of on the bed or floor or something.

The portability is nice for when we are out in the yard or garage working on stuff. Once they aren't infants they can play in it   and won't go anywhere

It's portable and they don't grow out of them nearly as fast, and it's multi-use for the entire first year at least. Makes sense $ wise. Bassinet in my opinion is just a pretty thing to buy, not functional compared to a pack and play

I bought a pack and play 8 years ago and used it with my first two kids. It came in handy a lot but I havent bought one for this baby, not yet anyway. We used it for camping trips, sleep overs at grandmas, play time and naps. When they grew out of it, it became a blanket/stuff animal/toy bin! I gave it to a friend a couple years ago. I've been looking into getting a new one, they have changed a lot over the past 8 years!

You get more use out of them. The pack and play has a bassinet insert (most do anyways) so most people just use that as bassinets are expensive and you don't use them very long. I have a pack and play and a bassinet. But my bassinet was a gift from my 1st baby. I didn't plan on buying one. My 1st hated the bassinet and my second loved it. I will have the pack and play downstairs for naps and the bassinet upstairs in our room for bed.

My first daughter hated her bassinet and pack n play and if the mattress was inside the crib she freaked out so we put the mattress on the floor and she slept like a champ.
My second absolutely adored her bassinet and we didn't have room for a crib so she slept in her pack n play with no problems, now we have a crib for her (and bigger place to live lol) and she loves that too....with my third I'm interested in what he will sleep in comfortably

I had a bassinet, crib, and a pack n play. My daughter used her bassinet for 6 months and then transferred to a crib. She absolutely hates her pack n play. It's literally folded up in a corner, because not only will she not sleep in it, she gets ridiculously hateful and fussy when I put her in it to play. Therefore I just put her in her walker when I need to get things done. I think we both hate that pack n play and I feel it was a waste of money lol I'm only keeping it because I'm expecting again and I'm hoping maybe this baby girl will use it. I did see the appeal to it, but now I regret ever getting the pack n play lol

Portable for travel and the baby can use it much longer (as they are larger in length and depth than a bassinet).
