I would never "hit" my child. However a light slap on the butt never hurt anyone.

There is a difference between discipline and punishment. Punishment is hitting such as spanking, losing privileges. Discipline is guidance and direction to correct the problem.

Coming from being abused when I was growing up because when I would need to be disciplined my step father would be angry. You should never spank hit anything while you are angry. Cool off and then discipline.

It's illegal to hit an animal unless it is attacking you. You will pay fines, you will go to jail if you are caught "punishing" an animal by hitting. You are not allowed to train animals with hitting. My friend's K-9 unit has a German shepherd that can locate bombs, sniff out drugs, open and close certain doors and understand commands in 3 different languages. At no point in its life was it ever struck to teach it a lesson. There is no way in hell you will ever convince me that my child is not as smart as a dog. If simple animals can learn obedience through positive re enforcement, then so can he. (And he does)

I grew up in a very abusive home so HELL NO!!!   It can seriously mess a kid up, back then it was okay and not considered abuse, Thank the Lord it is now'!!!   I can scare the living daylights out of my child with out whooping her I would ground her and take away all the electronics ?
