im 17 weeks and 4 days . I keep hearing two heart beats(other than my own) using my fetal Doppler. Today the two heart beats were about 5 inches apart and opposite sides of my belly . I had one ultrasound so far at 10 weeks.could they have missed a baby?

Its possible especially if one baby is hiding behind the other. Since you're further along at your next ultrasound your doctor should be able to clearly see if there is more than one baby.

Generally you'll hear your placenta, and the baby! :) placenta has its own pulse (:
