Smoking marijuana while breastfeeding?

Will anything happen to the baby if the breastfeeding mother smokes marijuana? Comment down your experiences.

Uh really? Don't. It's that simple. But I know my advice isn't going to go anywhere. So here's an alternative:
Use formula or pump before you smoke or drink. But seriously consider using formula. No infant needs that crap in their system.

I think it's fine. Marijuana is an herb..unless you smoke heavy, you and your baby should be fine ;). My mom smoked while she was pregnant with me and while she breastfed me and I turned out just fine.

My friend smokes and breastfeeds and her kid looks high all the time... It's sad :(

First, there is no factual evidence of marijuana "hurting" a fetus or infant. Notice I said hurting, not effecting. The only thing that has been proven is that cannabis does stay in your bloodstream after ingested, so if you're breast feeding, yes it does pass to your baby. It's not going to make your baby "high" because it's not passed through the lungs, but THC does have medicinal effects and could make your baby tired, appear dazed, more hungry, and eventually make them cry because marijuana IS addictive. Which is the main reason why it's not recommended while breast feeding; infants can experience cravings and withdrawals after being exposed to marijuana and they'll just cry and cry until they get more. Also, marijuana HAS been proven to lower the amount if breast milk production. So the answer is TECHNICALLY, no, marijuana will not "harm" your baby/cause defects, BUT it does come with consequences that really aren't beneficial for you or your baby.

Just keep in mind that anything and everything you put in your body will be shared with your baby when you are pregnant and BFing.  That's something that could get your children snatched right out of your custody, if the right person found out. Is it worth the risk?
