Clarifying Christian stance
So some debate from like a year ago resurfaced about Christian beliefs on homosexuality. I didn't want to post there since it's so old, but I saw several comments from people who seem to think traditional Christians view being gay as a sin unto itself and therefore condemn that "view" as bigoted toward an entire group of people.
I wanted to clarify that mainstream Christianity does not view being gay as a sin. Rather, homosexual ACTS are considered sinful, just as premarital sex, adultery, etc. are. No one can control how they're born, but they can control their actions once they get here.
In Christianity marriage is intimately tied to procreation; same-sex couples have no potential to procreate, so cannot marry (traditionally, obviously); and any form of sexual activity outside a valid marriage is believed to be sinful. No one would argue that the church is biased against heterosexuals, yet a non-married heterosexual person would be expected to abstain from sexual acts indefinitely as well.
