Placenta encapsulation ?!

Has anyone done it or thought about it??

I really wanted to but then I read an article taking about how the placenta also filters toxins and bad so you would be ingesting bad with good, I'm still on the fence I think it's neat and def. not gross just thinking about it from all angles 🤗

It sounds crazy to me. I'm not interested. Why would I eat an organ my body expels? Would I eat my menstrual blood? That has iron, God forbid I let it go to waste. Yes some animals eat the placenta but some animals eat their own 💩 too.

However, it should be noted by expectant mothers that the majority of the information we have regarding placental encapsulation comes almost entirely from anecdotes of women who have tried it"

Not only has no scientific study show there to be any positive side effects, but some have actually shown an increased chance of infections! The placenta's job is to filter toxins, so why would you eat it? Most of the people who do it, choose to do so based on anecdotal evidence, just stories they've heard, not science. I consider myself fairly open minded and "crunchy granola" but I just cannot bring myself to participate in a practice that is thoroughly rejected by science!

Yes I am encapsulating myself. It is an easy process. Around here doulas charge $100-$200 to do it for you.

I'm doing it!! I did not with my first child but I'm going to with this one. I don't want to risk getting the blues going into winter... I feel like I'm prone to that happening. My mother in law has been a labor and delivery nurse for 30 years, she's also a little "earthy", and she said it definitely can't hurt! Doesn't gross me out at all as long as it's in capsule form.

Did it with my first. Definitely doing it again to at least have the option of taking them. If all else fails and they don't help or make things worse, I'll plant them under a tree like we did with the few from my first that I didn't finish.
