Should I go on the pill?

I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to go on the pill or not and has been that way for over a year. I'm not a person that likes taking any sorts of medication and I think that's the only thing that's putting me off and some story's I've heard about going off the pill. The only reason I want to is because my periods are very irregular from being a few weeks late to not coming at all. My boyfriend and many other people suggest I go on it but I'm not too sure what to do. Someone give me some advice please
