Any advice?

My boyfriend and I have been together for four months he recently got accepted into a really good college in North Carolina. He is leaving July 16th to move down there. Right now, I live in Pennsylvania and he lives in Ohio. We live about 45 minutes away from eachother which is doable. But this will be 9 hours. I'm all for trying out a long distance relationship because I'm in love with boy. But he thinks that we should either take some time off from each other or have an open relationship. I don't want that at all. He doesn't want a long distance relationship because "he wouldn't be able to handle it". Now eventually my "dream state" that I want to live in is South Carolina. And he says that when I move down there if we felt the same way we could get back together. I just really don't know what to do. I'm a mess right now.
