When did you tell work...

Question

When did you tell work that you were going through ivf? Did you, or did you just wait until you got pregnant? Some of my co workers know I'm going through ivf but my manager doesn't... I'll be having my egg retrieval soon and three days after hopefully my transfer, and il need to take those days off but I don't know what to tell them...

I told work almost immediately. My clinic accidentally used my work number so a pretty obvious name was coming through on caller ID so I just went with it so they wouldn't excitedly think I was pregnant. So far I haven't regretted it. We're an office of three and I pick my own hours but it gives the other two an understanding for why I'm leaving early, coming in late, and not wanting to come back in after 1pm appointments because I won't be able to concentrate. They have been beyond supportive and discreet. It works for our office.

I work with an After school private academy as a teacher so I told them right away as sometimes my appointments or traffic cause me to be late or miss work completely.

It is a small academy but they are rather accommodating and allow me the time off for all of my appointments and proceedures.

I am waiting to get pregnant. My job is relaxing and very flexible. Plus having an FLMA is helpful too!

I work from home during the day, most of the time my blood tests and scans have all been booked in for the evening.  So it has not been problematic.  I told my manager straight away, as I needed flexibility in case I had brain fog or tiredness which I did during the injections.  Also as egg collection and egg transfer dates can change.  I thought we should not be ashamed and do this silently on my own.  My manager was so understanding and said do what you need but to make sure I rest!.  I have not mentioned it to my colleagues yet...I only booked the collection and transfer dates however the dates changed to 2 days later so I was glad I mentioned it.  I hope that helps.

Great question! I was wondering the same thing. I am currently awaiting for AF to begin the IVF process. I work for a small medical practice, so it won't be easy to sneak away as often as I will be. I look forward to reading responses.
