Is it ok to date with HPV? The cancer kind.

A couple of years ago My pap came back abnormal. I tested positive for hpv. The kind that causes cancer. My body have fought it off. And my test came back negative last month but I'm still worried about living a normal dating life and having to explain it! 😢

Ugh, I hate when people comment on things they clearly know nothing about. Many men are carriers of HPV and don't even know it...Most of us will have HPV at some point in our life, it's EXTREMELY common. You're just fine to date hun!

Honey you are overthinking it. If it's negative now I definitely wouldn't worry about it. 
If you are Straight, guys can't get tested for it So they'd be wrong to deny you for it when they could very likely already have it and not even know it. 
I felt the Same way when I found out I had it but it is Sooooo common that you can't cry over it. At least you can get tested and would be able to be treated immediately if it went cancerous. 
Plus people need to love you for you and not what you have. Until then it's none of their business.

Will HPV Go Away?

Most of the time HPV does go away without any kind of treatment.1, 2. Your body's natural defense system (immune system) will usually suppress or eliminate the virus, much like your body gets rid of a common cold (colds are also caused by viruses).

Problems occur when your immune system is unable to get rid of HPV.  Research has shown that it may take your body up to 24 months to rid itself of HPV, which seems like a long time, but studies have shown that 92% of young women with a positive HPV test will have a negative test within that 24 month time frame.3  When subclinical HPV (the types of HPV which have no symptoms) invades the cells of the cervix and persists (does not go away) it can cause serious abnormal cell changes in the cervix, which may lead to cervical cancer if allowed to continue without treatment.  The process usually takes 10-20 years.

When HPV persists and does not go away there are usually other factors that inhibit your body's natural defense system from doing its job. The factors identified by researchers that affect your body's ability to fight HPV infection are smoking, HIV and other diseases that weaken the immune system, cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, previous Chlamydia or herpes infection, poor nutrition, inability to get health care due to poverty, five or more vaginal births and prolonged use of birth control pills (5 years or longer).

I think you should be honest with anyone before you get physical. Also talk to your dr about whether or not you can give someone hpv now. I'm not familiar with what happens after your body fights the virus. With so many ppl having hpv these days you can certainly find someone.

FYI  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that more than 90 percent of HPV infections are "cleared" by the body within two years. However, it is not known for certain whether the body actually gets rid of the virus altogether, or – as appears to happen in at least some women – the virus is merely suppressed to a low, undetectable level. It's possible that either scenario can occur, depending on the woman. 
The good news is that even if the HPV infection is merely suppressed by the body – "hiding" in the cells at a low level – it cannot cause abnormal cells to form or spread to another person when it is in this non-detectable state. The bottom line: A negative HPV test means you are risk-free for at least the next few years. However, it is believed that old HPV infections can "re-activate" years later, most likely due to changes in your immune system. (That's why it's important to keep your immune system healthy, by eating well, exercising and not smoking. Some experts also believe that taking a folic acid supplement helps.) In addition, if you have sexual contact with a new partner, you could get a new HPV infection with a different type of the virus. Thus, periodic re-testing is needed. Current medical guidelines recommend that women with normal Pap and negative HPV results be re-tested every three years. How can I avoid HPV and the health problems it can cause?

You can do several things to lower your chances of getting HPV.

Get vaccinated. HPV vaccines are safe and effective. They can protect males and females against diseases (including cancers) caused by HPV when given in the recommended age groups (see “Who should get vaccinated?” below). HPV vaccines are given in three shots over six months; it is important to get all three doses.

Get screened for cervical cancer. Routine screening for women aged 21 to 65 years old can prevent cervical cancer.

If you are sexually active

Use latex condoms the right way every time you have sex. This can lower your chances of getting HPV. But HPV can infect areas that are not covered by a condom - so condoms may not give full protection against getting HPV;Be in a mutually monogamous relationship – or have sex only with someone who only has sex with you.
