Hello advice please

I've been told today I have a 3cm cyst on my left ovary, my period is 2 days late, could it be late because of the cyst? I'm so confused right now :( the doctor hardly explained it n just said I had a cyst that was 3cm on my left ovary :( has anyone got a cyst that can explain everything to me? ( like what cysts are and why you get them) And if anyone knows if they can stop/ delay periods x
