Birth control for teens?

Okay so I'm 15 and I've been in a relationship for almost 2 years now. For the duration of us being together my boyfriend and I just used condoms (haven't had a failed thankfully). But I wanted to go on another form of birth control too to make sure that I have a back up in case a condom fails (I LOVE babies, but I am NOT ready to be a mum just yet!). What do you think would be best for a teen? I was thinking about an non-hormonal IUD because they're long lasting and I don't really like the idea of hormone birth control but I'm not sure.

I'm 17 and I'm on the birth control patch, and it's also my first birth control experience. I like it a lot. It is 99.7% effective. I stick it on my butt where it is covered and discreet, and change it after a week. I've swam with it, sweated, done the whole 9-yards and it has never came off. (However I am leaving for camp tomorrow and I'm gonna be swimming, rock wall climbing, running, SWEATING LIKE CRAZY, dancing, yadda yadda. I'll let you know when I get back if I had any issues 😉) it's overall just easy to deal with and remember and I highly recommend it as a first time birth control!

The non hormonal IUD will make your periods heavier and longer so be aware of that if you already have heavy/long periods! I have endometriosis and have very heavy periods that last 8+ days and I was on it for 6 months and was hell! I loved the idea of the IUD since it was so discrete and also wasn't a fan of putting hormones in my body but I gave the hormonal IUD a try since I saw it didn't have estogen(extra estrogen in my body makes me very grouchy and sad) that was almost 3 years ago and I absolutely love my Mirena IUD! I definitely recommend it!

One you may need to talk to your parents most states you need parental consent until you are 18 since you need a prescription. I started on the monthly pill when I was 17. I loved it was nice to have and my mom got it for me since i had really bad acne. About three years later I switched to the three month pill, which was heaven not having a period but every three months. Hormonal is not a bad thing finding the right pill that does well with your body is the hard part. I am now on the implant because my life is too hectic for the pill ever day and I love it. Six years on the pill and 4 months on the implant with no complants from either.

The non hormonal IUD as well as the hormonal one will both give you some pain for the first few months. It's because your body is rejecting the IUD because it's a foreign object so you might bleed heavily or get really bad cramps for days but once your body gets used to it, you should be okay.
