Names and getting a job

Has anyone had a tough time getting a job because their name is either "too unique" or "too ghetto"(My friend told me This-I hope it doesn't offend anyone). I'm having a really tough time. My friend and I applied for the same job. I applied weeks before her. She got an interview but declined and I never got a call. :/ How do you find a job? I'm starting to become hopeless.
