Gwen has arrived! 16/06/16 at 11:13pm 😍

Laura • FTM to one beautiful daughter named Gwen - born June 16th via c-section. Single mom by choice.

My baby girl was 8 days past due. I recieved Cervadil at 6pm June 15th to thin my cervix overnight. Then, I was induced with an oxytocin drip at 7am June 16th by IV.

By 11am I had not dilated and was already receiving 12 milliunits per minute. The contractions I had were only mildly uncomfortable. I had a balloon catheter implanted and dilated to 2cm quickly. At 2pm the doctor broke my water and we saw the baby had pooped inside me. (Green stinky liquid instead of the usual clear/yellowish kind). We increased my oxytocin to try to jump start actual labour. Until 10pm I experienced contractions that were a 5/10 on the pain scale while receiving 30 milliunits of oxytocin. At my 10pm cervix check my doctor suggested a c-section. He warned me of the risk of infection for my baby (from her poop) but also gave me the option to continue trying to get into active labour.

I agreed to the c-section because my hopes for dilating on my own were low - I hadn't dilated any for 15 hours.

I walked into a room at 10:50pm and was sat on the operating table where the anesthesiologist was really relaxing and the nurses all were patient with me when I would flinch everytime he'd prep me. The spinal was administered with no issues and I couldn't feel from my ribs and down. The nurse put a curtain up so I wouldn't see the operation and allowed me to have my dad sit in with me and comfort me and I was talking and smiling with him waiting for the doctor to start when I heard her lungs being suctioned and her first cry! I had felt a tiny tug but nothing else and she had been born at 11:13pm only 13 minutes of chatting n I had my baby! They toweled her face and placed her in my hands to love and admire immediately and my doctor explained he was going to remove a big cyst from my fallopian tube that I had not known was there. 2 for 1 surgery haha. Gwen was so sweet and staring at me and SMILING through everything and I had only had a spinal and a drug to prohibit nauseau so I was clear headed and remember every little detail about her from her first moments in this world. The first thing I noticed is that she had had a full head of hair and was big! About 10 minutes they took her out to meet my mother and sister and stitched me up and wheeled me to recovery. In recovery they met me again with Gwen (they only separarated us for 10 minutes tops) they placed her on my bare chest and before I could even attempt to help she had latched on to my left breast and was suckling! Such an easy baby I was so relieved. We were then wheeled to our room together and I was provided with a high dose anti inflammatory suppository which was a dream come true and one dose of morphine. I got the suppository every day I was there (3 days) and would 100% recommend it over anything else to c section mamas. I didn't take any more morhpine just percosets before bed time & was able to shower on my own just 6 hours after surgery. I'm home now and my incision does prohibit a few things like bathing together but I had a great experience! There are too many horror stories or inductions and c-sections and I'm so happy to share my good story! Gwyneth says hi!
