Team circumcised or uncircumcised?

Question

I don't want him to be circumcised. In my opinion the "higher risks" of being uncircumcised are very little and unless they drug him up I'd assume it's painful. I don't want my baby drugged or in pain. Plus if it's something he wants later in life he can always do it then. But what are your ladies opinions?

I keep going back and forth on this issue. I've done a lot of research and spoken to numerous pediatricians and family practice doctors and the benefits of circumcision (lower risk of STDs and cancer) are marginal at best in developed countries. I've been leaning toward not circumcising our son because when it comes down to it, it just seems weird to surgically remove part of his genitals when that's how nature intended it to look and function. My husband is circumcised and he doesn't think we should circumcise our son; he also feels it's unnecessary. I don't see the point in continuing with an outdated tradition just because that's what we're used to when there's no real medical reason or benefit.

In most controversial debates (vaccines, occasional glass of wine, smoking while Preggo etc) I have a side that I stand firmly on, and while I try not to insult any other mother (we're all doing our best for Christ's sake) I sincerely believe to myself the other side is wrong. HOWEVER. With circumcision I'm super different. I circ'd my son. I was a single mom, and at the time I couldn't imagine a 10 year old boy who would fold back is foreskin and clean himself right. Honestly, I know too many men I've walked by and cringed because they smell awful coming from the nether region. I will circ my second son as well. It is totally cosmetic, but it's what is right for me and my family. I do not believe either side is better than the other. I totally respect a mom and dads right to do what is best for them. For me, we circ. For hygiene, for my benefit in teaching cleanliness. But if a mom doesn't want to circ, doesn't like the procedure etc, she's totally entitled to that. I'd share a glass of wine with a mom with an uncircumcised son. It was super hard, because I knew it wasn't 100% necessary to do. I cried. My boy healed in literally one day. It wasn't as bad as I thought. Do what's right for YOU and your family. Though if you're gonna, I'd do it early. No one wants to remember that 😷

Chiming in with a different perspective... I'm Jewish; if my husband and I were having a son, we would circumcise him for religious reasons. However, none of my nephews are circumcised. I really view it as a personal parenting decision and no one can tell anyone else that they're wrong for doing it one way or another. Whatever you decide will be best for your son, and you need to know that. Good luck making a tough decision, momma!

Our two boys (5 and 2) are both uncircumcised- and our little guy on the way won't be either.
We haven't had any problems with infections or anything as of yet, and my pediatrician said that with the level of hygiene available now it's really not common at all to have major problems.

Either way- he'll never know any different! 😉 I know it feels like a huge decision, but just do what's right for your kiddo. Either way there isn't a right or wrong answer.

You are going to get some strong opinions on this one! I did not have a doctor slash my sons penis. I say it like that because that is how I feel about it. My oldest son is 12 his father was cut and he said he really wished his mother would not have done it. The same goes with his mom she says she regrets doing it to him and she did not to her other 2 sons. I investigated and spoke to many ppl shit I still ask my male friend about things like that because I am a very open person. I was worried about infection and problems but he has had 0! You just have to teach him how to clean it and explain that if he doesn't keep it clean it's nasty and can get infections. That has never happened to my son. I have also spoken to many doctors about it and it is said that when you cut away the skin it takes away sensation because it is exposed and rubs on everything. I also feel like he is born with it that way so that is how it is supposed to be. It is just a way to make more money. If it was something medically necessary insurance would pay. I am having my second boy in September and I will not be mutalating my child in a doctor's office. But I will make sure that he stays clean and knows how to be a clean person!

I did it to my son after he was born he was perfectly fine I just was more worried then his dad was but we plan to get it done to his little brother in 12 weeks or less.

Where I'm from it's not a "tradition" and very very few do it.  Infections and cancer are not more common than anywhere else, so I see no point in doing it.  Also I'm  a doctor...

I'd do it when he's a baby rather than making him wait til he's older. My baby wasn't drugged, just numbed and the only time he cried was when they were strapping him in. My hubby was by his side the whole time and once he calmed our son down, our son didn't cry.
