UK - why the early appointment?

Hi All!

So I have registered with a new surgery today as my GP has moved and I'm following her to her new practice.

I took my registration form in today and said I was 5 weeks pregnant and need to make my first apointment - should that be at about 8 weeks, I asked.

The receptionist said no and I could see the GP this week....

So my question to you lovely ladies is : is there even much point at this early stage? Will I have to see her again in 3 weeks anyway?

I went in to the surgery and said I was pregnant and they referred me to the midwife but I have a doctors appointment next week at almost 7 weeks as I am high risk of having multiples 😬

Just got back from the midwife, I'm 9 weeks 1 day and they didn't want to see me any earlier

Update - just been to the doctor. She said its fine to come this early and she did blood tests and did my bmi/ general questions etc. It felt good to talk to her.

She also said it means I can get the scan at 10weeks as they tend to do it earlier now.

Worth the early apointment and 5weeks+3 days!

My doctor didn't wanna see me when I rang up even though I have a slight risk of having the zika virus... I've got my first app. With the midwife on the 29th June which i will be 8 weeks... They didn't wanna see me any sooner.

I have my mifwife this week and I'll be 7 weeks and 2 days

That's strange! I'm in the UK too, I have my first appointment on the 1st July and I'll be 10 weeks then. I'm not sure if you'll have to return, but see it this way in that you get an extra opportunity to ask any questions etc. Good luck!

You can go if it makes you feel better. But my midwife/ob won't see me till 8 weeks because it's unnecessary.
