Car seats for 4 year old

Because I can not find info online im wondering if anyone happens to know... I have a very big 4 year old... He is 3 1/2-4 feet tall, and weighs 58 pounds!! He currently sits in a booster seat using the cars seat belt, with the backrest attached to it... But he hates the backrest and I'm wanting to know the requirements for being able to take it off, and just have him sit in the regular booster.... I live in California.... Thanks

This is also a good reference for which type of seat to use.

Wow! Looking at this my son was 40 lbs at 3! Lol Definitely not mature enough to sit in just a booster though.

I think it's 40 lbs to be in a booster. But I like the advice to check with the state police or dmv to be sure!

You can go to the police station and ask they will let you know what the rules are for car seats

Depends on the states requirements. Some laws are changing.

https://www.chp.ca.gov/programs-services/programs/child-safety-seatsThat's all I found. I live in Colorado where the law is very strict. California doesn't have much info on car seat requirements.
