What to do with your older kid when you go into labor?

Please don't judge our situation, just needing some advice!
My son is 3 and has never spent the night away from us, and still needs us in the room when he goes down for bed. (He usually goes down right away with us there but without he'll cry for hours). He'll sometimes wake up in the night, need us to lay him back down and he's out like that. I'm not sure why he does that either. Anyway, Im not sure what to do with him when I go into labor. Has anyone ever had daddy sleep at home and be at the hospital at all other times with mom & baby? Or what have you done in this situation? We only have one set of grandparents in our lives, and I'm worried they don't have it in them to take on this challenge. Maybe I need to have more faith and believe they will step up when the time comes?
Thanks!
