Has my son been using me?!

My son feeds a ton. . . Like a ton. He wakes up and eats at 2am, 5 am, and from 7am he eats until 11am or 12. Then he has an hour feeding at like 2 or so. He eats again at 5 and won't stop till 11pm!!!! When my nipps get too sore I hand him to my hubby cause if I keep holding he will be fussy until I stick a boob in his mouth. Once my hubby gets him, he suddenly stops fussing and is completely calm. I feel like he's been tricking me! Has anybody had this happen to them?

He could be cluster feeding as well.. My lactation consultant said to look for a swallow every 2-3 sucks. If he isn't swallowing, then burp him offer it again, if he still isn't swallowing then try a distraction. This is the time they make eating habits, so you want to nip that behavior in the butt asap.

While in the hospital my baby was "nursing" at one point for 4-5 hours are a time. The nurse said she was likely using me a pacifier and we gave her one to see if it was true. Sure enough it calmed her down and she went right to sleep!

Depending on age he could be going through a growth spurt to which they will feed every one to two hours and sometimes they will cluster feed. I'm little man is now 8 weeks and we are going through the same thing plus he likes to use me as a pacifier. I hear after 8 weeks it gets easier as the next grow spurt should be at 12 weeks and the at 4 months then 6 months. So your doing great hang in there.

I am on the same boat!!! I saw a Lacation consult and she said to limit him to 20 mins per boob. He cries and cries bc he is used to over an hour ... But now he is only getting 40 mins total .... Mine is feeding ever two hours! Leaves very little time for me to do anything!

He is definitely not tricking you :) My first born nursed like that too. It can be totally normal or it could possibly mean he's not getting quite enough milk during each session due to problems like improper latch or tongue tie. You can always go see a lactation consultant (go to an IBCLC) if you're concerned.

Babies don't think like that they just know when their hungry... My lactation   consultant told me babies should be breastfeed up to 12 times a day

Is he swallowing milk that whole time? A lactation consultant said some babies that just like to soothe by sucking on the nipple, not actually nursing.

My son was doing that as well he wouldn't want to get off of me so I thought it was the 2-3 week growth spurt. I had the Lactation consultant come to my home she weighed him before and had him bf for 15 mins to see his milk transfer. It turns out he was only getting a tablespoon 15ml in that whole time. He has a high palate and a little bit of a tongue tie so he has a poor latch. He leaves a lipstick shaped nipple. Anyway long story short he wasn't getting enough milk and now I exclusively pump he sucks for comfort every now and then.

I could have written this. My son pretty much has the same schedule. I supplement when I can tell he is actually hungry and been going boob to boob for s good hour and a half. At night from about 6-11 he cluster feeds and gets frustrated when he doesn't get enough. I started giving  him a bottle at night. It's helped tremendously and I get some sleep afterwards.
