Building a career or family first?

Question

Have you focused on a career or starting your family first? I want to get into the police force and move up quickly and make more money, but I need to be able to devot everything to get there. I also want a big family (4-5 kids) at a younger age than most (I want my first at least before 26) but it wouldn't be fair to juggle kids and a job as demanding as policing so I don't know what I should be aiming for first...Thoughts and advice are welcome :)

My husband's career has already taken off well before mine. He bought out a multi-million dollar business when he was 24. He's now 27 and the business is thriving and doing really well. I didn't want to be entirely dependent on him and I like having my own job. I finished school at 21 and I'm currently a tenured teacher at 25 working towards my masters which I should finish in December.

I had our 1st daughter at 24 during my tenure year and I'm currently 35 weeks with our son at age 25. We plan to have one more in the next 2 years and then call it good. Careers are a smart move first to be able to provide the best for your children.

Definitely career. I didn't want to take my focus off of my work and raise kids. Especially since I really didn't even want kids I have always focused on my career.

I've been with my current employer for 8 years. I have three children now (in my mid 30's) almost 5 yrs, 3yrs, and 4 months. My career really took off 2 years ago and I'm in an amazing place right now. Clearly all at the same time as growing my family. My husbands career just skyrocketed about 6 months ago. He's been working 5 hours away and I've been handling the kids and everything at home. It's not easy, but we make it work. Another 6 months and he will be back home which will relive some pressure for me. When you have a good partner, you really can do it all. Neither one of us has great family support in general so supporting each other is even more important

For me it was career first. I got in with the hospital I wanted to work for, and then got the job and shift I wanted before we started trying to conceive. It was very important to me that my job allow me to be as available as possible for our future children, while also making the money we needed to afford private school(my husbands job actually makes this possible, but my money doesn't hurt 😂) Mind you I still haven't got my BFP, but it made me feel really good about getting my stuff in order before starting to try. With all of that being said, it is really up to you. Only you and your partner can know when the right time is!! Good luck on both the job and baby making front!

Actually depending on where you'll be working as a police officer, it's not that demanding. My husband is an officer and has been for around 4 years. At first his hours were weird but now his schedule is planned and doesn't change unless he gets overtime. But as a women you would probably want to atleast get into the career and settled into a schedule just like any other job. I'm not saying it's an easy job, because my husband works hard but it's definetly not impossible.

I have about 15 more years of study to reach my career goal, but 3 more till I'm a qualified dental prosthetist. My plan is to maybe start trying after that once I have my own dental clinic and house with my SO. :)

By the time I finish school I'd only be 23 at most, and hopefully I'd be married. I want to have kids by at least 25, and have a couple stretched out until about 35. I feel like with my career choice I can do both , with the help of a husband
