Egg white discharge

Why do I get fertile discharge before my period or when my period is due. I just got started bleeding today. People are saying you're supposed to get creamy cm when you're going to get your period and fertile cm when you're ovulating but I didn't even have fertile discharge when I was ovulating according to my calendar.
