Ear jewelry.

I keep googling and I can't find what I'm asking or looking for. Can someone please explain to me what exactly saddle plugs are. I know they're double flared. I just ordered some off of amazon, and they look kind of long. Not taper long, but longer than my normal plugs I already own. Will they stick out of my ear a lot? That's not what I'm wanting.. So can someone please give me a little information on these? It would be much appreciated (:
