Foundation/Makeup Tips?

I've recently realized that my foundation looks super cakey and disgusting against my  skin. Most people's that I see looks so smooth and flawless. Any foundation recommendations (I currently use Mary Kay)? Or makeup tips that will give my skin that flawless finishing touch?

Exfoliate your face prior to makeup application. Use a foundation brush to apply your foundation. Set your foundation (believe it or not but setting your face actually makes a difference). And most importantly, use a setting spray (I recommend the Mario bedescu one, it's cheap and effective - it'll get rid of that cakey look).

Exfoliate before(Afterwards I moisturize while my face is still a little damp I find that my skin never cakes or flakes when I do this) , moisture or use a good primer I use the too faced hangover it's a primer and moisturizer it works amazing, use a beauty blender they're better than the cheapy one in my opinion they're a god send and use a setting spray they work wonders the best ones are loreal infallible or urban decay all nighter

Is it compatible with your skin type? If you're oily vs dry then you'll need to find products that are made to be more effective for those skin types.  I also think mary kay foundations are pretty cakey in general and you can find better and cheaper alternatives at the drugstore. Primers and setting sprays also help quite a bit.
