Hymenectomy

Has anyone else started having pain in their vagina during sex or other times and went to the gynecologist to be told parts of your hymen are still in tact and need to be removed through surgery? I just found out (although I've been having sex for 6 years without a problem) and was wondering about other people's experience with the surgery and recovery and if it ever came back? Thanks!
