Do you put your children/child on a pacifier?

Question

What age should babies be off a pacifier? 
Do you use a pacifier for them yes or no & why ? Should pacifiers shouldn't even have been invented ?

I personally don't like to use pacifiers on children if I'm babysitting them, even my family members kids I will not give a newborn or a baby a pacifier. If they cry I simply find another thing that'll stop them from crying & learn what they like by watching their face reactions to things. It always works for me.

Both my kids had pacis and so will my new baby. Its a form of comfort & helps reduce the risk of SIDS. Plus i can take it away much easier than a thumb!

I'd rather have my kids on a pacifier than their finger. It's a lot harder to get kids to stop sucking their fingers than it is to just gradually take away all of their pacifiers.

When my son was in the NICU they gave him a pacifier so that he can learn to suck, never to stop crying. It helped but once he came home I stopped giving it to him because 1. He knows how to suck now & 2. I rather hear him cry since that's the only way he can express himself ... I feel like pacifiers are the first form of babysitters.

A pacifier has been proven to help prevent cot death as it reminds baby to suck which helps to remind them to breathe. Not all babies like one, I didn't give my daughter one at first but she was struggling to settle after her night feeds so gave her one at 4 weeks old and it worked a trick. No more restless baby or tired mummy! Plus as they get abit older they might suck there thumb or fingers which is way worse as you can't take that off them. My little girl only had it to get her off to sleep then would spit it out and it eventually went to 'Santa' just after she turned 2. I don't agree with people just giving their toddlers pacifiers to keep them quiet.

My daughter had a paci. It was comforting for her when she needed to calm down, it also helped her fall asleep easier. You can take a pacifier away much easier than you can stop your child from sucking on their fingers. Every parent is different. I took her paci away at 15 months.

I have never given my son a pacifier and he is 9 months old. In my opinion, they are 100% pointless.

Two of my three babies used pacifiers. The oldest I thought I would never get it from her. The middle child came off at about 18 months. My nine week old cannot stand them. And no signs of her putting her fingers in her mouth.
