Can an abusive relationship recover?

If anyone has stories, this is a safe place to share. Did it work out in the long run for anyone or is it best to leave? Thanks in advance ladies 💜. We're all worthy of an amazing love and respect.

My husband was agreesive with me a few times. Last time he hit me I said hit me again and I am getting a divorce. I also hit him back and told him not to touch me. He never hit me again and it's been 7 years

It depends. Does the abuser really want help. Then i say yes. If not it wont recover. I know from experience.

I've been in an abusive relationship. We are still together and things are way better. He used to get angry at anything and everything. Ex. I was driving once and hit a water puddle and hit me upside my head and put me out. But now after much praying and talking he hasn't hit me for a year, or showed signs of it. So it is possible. Just have to be willing to try.

It's definitely best to leave. An abuser can recover and become a better person, but the chances of that taking place in the relationship they are currently in is very unlikely. Sometimes they have to lose everything to understand that they are a piece of shit and discover that that's not who they really want to be.

I was in a really bad relationship I was 16 when it started and 18 when I left their was no hope the abuse started early and was not changeable. My brother and his wife were both abusive but they had stuck it out and fixed themselves in the processes. Their relationship wasn't always on the rocks and they knew that it wasn't right and they changed for the better. So long story short somewhere in an abusive relationship there has to be change either by separating or fixing yourselves then your relationship start new.

In my situation, it didn't get better. At all. It was more emotional/mental abuse at first. Then physical. He punched me because I had to go babysit my nephews. He didn't believe that's where I was really going. He never believed me and ALWAYS had to come, until that night I couldn't bring him with me.  (My family noticed small things like comments he'd make and whatnot and didn't want him around at all. I was "young and in love" and didn't listen to my family. I had gotten into fights with my mom over it. Now I know she just wanted what was best for me.)

He punched me. He asked if it had hurt. I said no. (I was scared to tell him it hurt). I didn't think he'd do it again. His response was "then I better keep doing it till it hurts & YOU stop".

He blamed me. For everything. It didn't get better. I knew I wasn't in a good relationship. I didn't leave right away because I told one of my friends that he punched me. She said "well it wasn't your face that he punched so does that really count?"

So I stayed in the relationship for another month or so. I thought if my best friend doesn't believe me or think it's wrong then no one else would either.

I finally left a few months later & couldn't be happier.

In my situation no i knew he would never change and i had to leave or else i would end up dead..the thing with him though is he had gfs before me and after me and while with me and he never laid a hand on them not once..but when it came to me thats all he ever did so i kept thinking and i still do that maybe i did deserve it and that it was clearly something i was doing wrong

Verbal and  physically abuse. I used to get pulled by my hair and dragged on the floor. Money stolen for drugs. I was told i was nothing. I was slammed on the ground he knew i was pregnant and miscarried. Still didn't leave ended up having a child by him still. Bruises all over but never in my face.

The abuser doesn't deserve that chance with the abused. And the likelihood of reoccurrence is insanely high.
