So I have a SHORT TERM DISABILTY plan through at work. It's not through them though. Anyway, my doctor told me that for normal delivery she writes for me to be off for 6 weeks with a recommend 2 extra weeks for breastfeeding etc.. She said she does that because they could get into trouble by insurance if she flat out saids I need 8 weeks total. Because it isn't medically necessary. Is this normal? She said for a c section she writes for 8 weeks. My STD told me that they will allow however much my doctor writes for

I'm not sure about this but that's a great idea. I'm going to ask my doctor for the extra two weeks for BF. Worth a shot !

It's normal. You can take up to 12 weeks according to the family medical leave act but it won't be paid.

Generally even if the doctor writes you out for longer, short term disability will only cover (and pay you) for 6 weeks for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for csection
