bilingual to work in America?!!

Mason • Mason Steel Davis - 23 - 1/24/2016
I'm tired of going out and looking for work and being told I need to be bilingual. Like wtf. This is bs. As a veteran who was medically discharged. I can't even get a job at Taco Bell or McDonald's and I'm broke as hell because all I get is my disability compensation. Where I am going with this is so you think it is wrong that here in America we should be discriminated against just because we don't speak Spanish. Damn this is America, a melting pot. If we have to learn Spanish. Why not be forced to learn every single language since people move here from every country. Is this a racist view point or just a pissed off us citizens view point.

America has one of the largest conglomeration of cultures and languages. It's to be expected. Especially since we don't have a national language.

Mason you're very ignorant. We live in a melting pot it would be wrong to make one language a national language. Like Tij said many people are bilingual. I am and I've been learning a new language for three years now. It's not a difficult task to pick up another language.

And it shouldn't be, since most people in the US are bilingual. But if you need help learning other languages, there are plenty of people on here and in the world who would be willing to offer assistance.

So you acknowledge that American is a melting pot of different languages and cultures but cannot understand why a job may prefer to have a bilingual employee on their team?If I have 10 engilsh speaking employees and none that speak Spanish why would I need to hire another person that only speaks English?

Being a veteran doesn't make you entitled to a job. My husband is currently fighting for this country so I can empathize with him, if he's not what they're looking for, he's not what they're looking for.

My husband is bilingual and also had a hard time finding a job after he was medically discharged from the military. It took him almost 2 years to get a job. You'll get your opportunity as well. Just don't give up. There's also this rehab vocational program for vets. They help you get employed.

Because Spanish is the second most spoken language in America? You do realize that we live next door to Mexico, right?

Spanish is highly spoken America. Not to mention it's somewhat closely related to the other romantic languages in Europe. Mexico is right next door, there are a lot of people who moved here. Maybe find a job where you don't need to be bilingual? Also what does being a veteran have to do with this? You could have left all of that out.

I sure as hell don't know where you're looking for work at, there's so many places that don't require it but is preferred. And the reason they ask for Spanish just because it's a common second language.

Also, try getting a government job. See if your local city is hiring. Did you go to college? Do you still get money form the GI Bill? A lot of places want you to have a higher education too. If you don't have that, there is a good reason on why you're not getting a job. Sometimes places like McDonalds and Taco Bell only want high schoolers and college kids.

Do you live in an area where there is a large Spanish speaking percentage? If so, the bilingual thing is completely understandable. Just download a Spanish app to get started , and keep searching and hoping.
