Is an IUD easier or worse after a baby?

I want to know about your experience if you used an IUD before pregnancy, and got a new one post pregnancy.

I had one inserted before my first baby, and it was very painful and I bled for months, but once that stopped it did a great job for three years. I'm considering getting another, but if I am going to bleed for another six months, my husband won't touch me, and it's already been forever since he was afraid of hurting the baby in utero.

If it tends to be easier, I think I will use it again. If not, I think I will have to try another option.
