Self harm tattoos?

I really want to get a tattoo to cover up the large scar on my wrist and to commemorate my recovery. Does anyone else have any tattoos that cover scars or that mean something special about your disorder or recovering? I would love to see some pictures for inspiration ❤️

I don't personally have any self harm tattoos to cover up scars, but I think this is an amazing idea. I also want to congratulate you on your recovery. I can relate to the many forms of self harm, and it's a hard thing to overcome. <3

I have a butterfly tattoo on my wrist (where I use to cut) & it symbolizes the butterfly project that helped me keep strong. I also have a tattoo on my side with a anchor, semi-colon and heart which symbolizes I refuse to sink and let my story end, i choose to move on with love and care. I love my tattoos and don't regret getting them 😊

I started a sleeve to cover up my scars in October. It will eventually be a full beauty and the beast themed sleeve. I started it at the bottom of my wrist and am working up wards with it to go over the scars first.  I have had quite a few tattoos and wouldn't say it's all that much more tender than any other! I've had to put finishing it on hold as I'm expecting in July, but can't wait to get it finished! It's only part way there but I feel more confident showing my arms and wearing short sleeves now! So I say go for it - and don't worry about what people think of your tattoo as everyone's preferences are different! X

I have been considering getting a tattoo on my left arm (since it holds most of my self harm scars). Me, being a huge Harry Potter nerd, was considering getting a dark mark tattoo. Not because i agree with the awful message and tyranny of voldemort but in the same sense that Draco Malfoy has the dark mark. He was only a kid who was forced into becoming a death eater because it was passed down to him through his father. He sided with good but was helpless because it was either give in to the evil or watch him and his family die. Now the dark mark is a permanent reminder to him on his past and how awful things were. For me my depression is much like that.
But idk i know a lot of people wont get it and judge me for it.

I got a tattoo of a butterfly for the self harm butterfly project. It's over my scars with "H.O.P.E" (hold on pain ends) underneath the butterfly. 🦋

I was actually thinking about getting one as well. I will warn you though that scar tissue is so painful to tattoo over, so if you don't think you can handle it, get it somewhere else.. my idea was to do one of those awareness ribbons and getting the dates tattoo on the top and bottom while getting my step grandfathers birthday and death day inside the Ribbon (however the step grandfather thing just came up as he died a week after my birthday 😕) his cancer happened to be the same color awareness ribbon as the self harm ribbon is.. another idea is to do a star and every year or month that you stay clean, you get another star.. the only bad thing with this though is that you really gotta be committed to staying clean and not relapsing. Just giving you ideas! Please if you do decided to get one, send me a picture so I can see your inspiration as I'm still throwing ideas around (since no one in my family really knows about my struggles with self harm)
