Merging finances ?

My boyfriend and I have lived together for 2 years and we split everything down the middle for bills. How do you transition from 2 separate bank accounts to a merging of accounts when you get married? Do any married couples still keep seperate accounts and who is in charge of managing the money if not? How do you married couples handle 2 people 1 bank account? ?

The older I get, the more I believe our mother's had the right idea on this subject! My dad managed (and made) all the money once my youngest brother was born. He paid my mother's credit card bills, all the household bills, all the grocery bills, everything. But my mother always kept a saftey account from her working days that was just hers. She still has it. I think it's easiest to designate the more responsible (doesn't have to be a fight, just think about who remembers to do the laundry most often) member to be the bill payer. You can also designate X% of your paychecks to go into a joint account and keep the remainder in your own accounts.

If it works the way it is, just leave it be. I'm not a fan of joint bank accounts to be honest, and my hubby and I have never had any issues. What's yours is his, what's his is yours, can at least keep some independence by having your own bank account :)

I'm married and we have separate accounts. He makes more money so he pays the majority of things. It's just easier and less fighting

I manage all of our money.

We have one account and everything is deposited into there, I then pay all the bills and savings contributions.

Whatever is left is our fun money. We both agree that anything until $100 we can spend without consulting the other. More than that, we discuss it before making the purchase.

Me and my oh are not married but have lived together for two+ years. We have a joint account which we each put in the same amount which covers all out bills (any extra is saved for a joint holiday) and the rest is our own money in our own accounts which we do what we want with. Saying that we happily share and split money between us when needed

My husband and I merged accounts when we got married. It's actually pretty easy. All you need to do is make an appointment at the bank to go in and add him to your account, or you to his account

My husband and I had a agreement when I was working because he made more he paid the bills and I bought groceries and cleaning products hygiene stuff like that. We each have a separate account but when we got married he gave me access to his account as an authorized user I can't make any real changes to the account but I can withdraw money if needed simply because he has to travel a lot for his job and sometimes emergencies arise . I also gave him access to my account but we do keep our money separate. When I go back to work things will go back to being how they were financially. We talk more to eachother about what we spend our money on and we give input to eachother about our choices like if he wants a game he has to talk with me but same goes for me. I think you should just do what makes less drama for you sometimes a joint account and the others spending habits can cause a lot of fighting

We started out having one joint account for bills where we put our money to hold it for bills and still had our own. Then we got a joint savings after our wedding shower. After 6 months of being married we moved his stuff to my account but we still have a couple separate accounts. I pay all of the bills we need to pay out of each check and tell him the remainder amount and he asks before he spends money to make sure we have it available then tells me how much he spent. Works for us.
