Anyone been induced?

I need to know what I'm up against. I've been told it's so much worse and that it leads to a cascade of interventions. I'm scared. They want to induce me at 39 weeks (5 days from now) because of gestational diabetes. I am bummed. I was told that as long as my sugars were well controlled (they are), that she wasn't growing crazy big (she's not, 36 week scan showed her in the 33rd percentile, so she's actually a little petite), and as long as her NST's look great (I go 2x a week- they are always absolutely perfect), that I would NOT have to be induced early. They say it's just their "protocol" and something about GD ages the placenta? Ugh. I don't know what I should do. I just wanna make the right choice for her. The safest choice, but they may be deciding NO INDUCTION. Can anyone share experiences? Anyone have positive outcomes? Anyone able to do it naturally?

I was induced with my first child, and it's really not that bad! It took a couple of hours for the drugs to kick in, they needed to break my water to speed things up too, you feel the labor pains, I had an epidural as soon as I could, and he was born trouble (and pain!) free four hours later. Try not to worry, the nurses and your doctor will take really good care of you and your wee one :-)

Unfortunately I don't have any answers, but I'm curious to see what other Moms say. I'm in the same boat, but a few weeks behind you. Found out about GD over 2 months ago and have been keeping my sugar well controlled without meds. The doc keeps going back and forth about an induction since like you said, it seems they consider it "protocol" to induce before due date with GD.   One week she said induction for sure, the next week she said we'll see how all the tests keep going. So far the NSTs have been "perfect" and we have the ultrasound next week to assess his size. I am also hoping for no induction since I've read probably too much information that it can snowball into more interventions, more painful labor, etc. Good luck to you! I'm sure either way, you and baby will do great and be healthy as can be!

I was induced at 39+3 due to my GD. I was at an advantage because I was already 30cm dilated and 50% effaced when I got to the hospital. Overall I was in labor for 18 hours but it really wasn’t bad at all! They started me on cervidil and then pitocin. Also, they had been estimating my baby to be bigger at my last few ultrasounds but she was only 6 lbs, 14 oz when she was born!

I was induced at 39 weeks due to GD, I hated induction and my little once just didn't want to come out and made it hard for the midwives to get a steady reading on her so I laboured on my side for half of it. I ended up with an epidural 9 hours in because the pain was unbelievable. I had an 18 hour labour. She was born 6lb, I was in hospital for 9 days after induction.

I was induced with my first at 39 weeks because of GD (perfectly controlled through diet) and wound up with a c section. I was ignorant and naive and didn't think to question any of it. Looking back I don't know if I would've fought against the induction but I definitely would've fought against the c section. I'm 20 weeks with my second, found a more supportive doctor who is much more focused on letting our bodies do what they're made to do without intervening unless it's an emergency, not because of a protocol or time limit.

I have GD too, now 41 weeks and doctor wants to induce tomorrow. My doctor said its ok to pass my due date since the GD is not bad, diet controlled even though I have some high numbers after meals. I think it's up to your doctor but since you're doing fine I would say it's ok to wait till 41 weeks before scheduling induction.
