Does birth control affect your periods immediately?

So I got the birth control implant on July 13th, and I know you need to wait until a week after for unprotected. However I wanted to be safe and wait 2 weeks to make sure it's kicked in.

But my period is about a week late, and I'm wondering if this is a direct result of the BC. I know I'm not pregnant, they wouldn't give me the implant if that was ur case, I'm just wondering if it affects my periods THAT quickly. Because I didn't expect it lol
