They aren't the same!! Rupturing membranes is when they break your bag of waters. This increases risk of infection by a lot and makes contractions much more painful. Sweeping the membranes is a doctor putting their finger inside your uterus and pulling on your cervix to try to start labor. It is painful and has a low success rate for actually starting labor. 😕

I think rupturing the membranes is breaking the waters....and a sweep is when the midwife inserts fingers and sweeps the bag of waters arround the cervix to possibly kick start labour.
I got a sweep but it didn't do anything. Took x3 lots of pessarys to induce my labour.
