Age Gaps? ADVICE PLEASE!

Question

I have a 5 year old son and I'm 37+1 with a girl, my son goes from "I hate babies" to "I want a brother" to "I'll share my toys and feed her and cuddle her" so it all depends on the day as to how he feels. Just wondering what everyone's experiences are with adjusting a child that has always had all of mummys attention to needing to share. He's incredibly clingy to me which I've always loved but now I'm a little worried he'll resent her and it won't go well. Also a little worried about them getting along since there's a 5 year age gap. Any advice?

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I know every family is different but all I've done so far is talk to him about her and get him involved as much as I can. Picking out clothes and other items at the shops, setting up the pram and cot, picking teddies, taking him to appointments and ultrasoubds. He came home from kinder the other day and free a family picture of us all for her nursery so that's a good sign, got it framed and hung it up and he's very proud. Guess we'll just have to wait and see! Good luck for all you other mums adding to your family too!

Biggest advice- get him involved.. as much as possible. I have older stepkids and they are so excited, but they are old enough that everything can be explained. 
But the younger two, I have tried to involve in decorating the room, picking out some items and even painting something for Peanut.
The oldest, I ask shopping advice from- what to get Peanut, what colors I should paint where.. and such.. the more involved, the better!

My son is 10, daughter 8 and other daughter 7. They are all super excited about having a new sibling.

I have a 7.5 year old boy, due with a boy in November. He's the same way. He begged for a sibling for so long (since he was about 4) and now that he's having a brother.......he's constantly changing his mind. It just depends on the day. Lol. I do believe he's acting out bc we will be giving the baby daddy's first name (first born has dads middle name) and he has be very opinionated about that. He does say he'd rather a sister and then other times he says he can't wait for his little brother. I do think that once baby arrives, they will become more aware and things will be easier .. My daughter is 9 n son is 6 n i guess its diff bc theyre 2 1/2 yrs apart so hv pretty muvh always had another person there but it was quite a suprise when i found out i was pregnant again!! Lol my daughter talks about wanting to just share a room with the baby n my son talks, kisses n hugs my belly every single day bout 15times! Lol so theyve grown used to it since they found out 10wks ago. Im 18wks now so we still hv quite a while to go still.

Well I tried for many years to get pregnant .. The condition I had wasn't allowing it and the many surgeries and medicines I had to take made me wait longer but I'm finally having a baby and my daughter will be 9 in September .. And she's so happy to help ❤️

I have a 9 year gap between my sister and i, and a 14 year gap between my youngest sister and i.

Every child and family is different but once the baby is there, that baby will be everyone's world. Maybe not over night. But it will happen.

I have 4 boys my youngest will turn 4 right before the baby comes. I always say our baby, we are having a baby and try to include him in this as we are going to do this together. He is so excited.

My kids will be 8 years apart. My son is excited to meet his baby sister. At first he wasn't. But now that he's seen her on the ultrasound and will be seeing her again today he's really excited.

I have an 11 & 7 year old boy...now 35 weeks pregnant with a little girl. They are excited about her. When my oldest was 4 and my younger son was being born...he was excited, he wanted to help out. I always said to him that "He was a big boy and such a great big brother". Now all they do is argue😔😔😔
