Help - birth control!!!!

I've had the ring in for about two weeks now, it's the fist type of birth control I've ever used. (I'm 16) I just read that smoking while on birth control isn't a good idea. Can someone please tell me if that's because it makes it less effective at stopping pregnancy or if it's bad for my health, (( I know smoking is bad for my health in the first place please don't re-inform me )) but what does it do to the ring?
