Okay it's way long, but bear with me.
My good ol buddy Renae decided to pick me up from my apartment at 12:30am on this lovely Sunday evening and we wanted burgers. We went to McDonald's because we thought it would be the only place open at such an hour.
When we got there, we wanted to pull in to the drive thru backwards, just to be dumb teenagers and have fun. Renae attempted and failed to go in backwards, and cars were coming, so we pulled out, let the cars through, and turned back around to go in again.
The car in front of us seemed to be all teenage boys occupying it, so naturally I dared Renae to talk to them. I told her to call out the window and ask them if we should go through the drive thru in reverse. She did, they said yes, she pulled out once more and tried to go in reverse. When she missed the entrance, Renae panicked and we sped away, leaving the potentially cute boys behind us, laughing hysterically the whole way.
We drove around the block to be sure the teenage boys didn't see us to embarrass ourselves further, and pulled back into the McDonald's drive thru--this time successfully in reverse.
We were greeted with a sassy, "Hello welcome to McDonald's, please pull through like a normal person or I will not serve you."
At this point we were over McD's, and wanted to head home, when we drove past In & Out and saw it was open! Renae drove into the drive thru, we ordered our food, and here is where the fun begins.
We pulled forward and there was another car in front of us. (Remember it's approximately 12:50am at this time.) We waited for all of about 45 seconds when we heard a very loud pop coming from the car, and saw billows of smoke coming from under the hood.
Renae and I looked at each other, maybe said a few expletives, and bolted from the car. If that thing was going to blow, I wasn't going to be anywhere near it.
After bolting, I noticed some sort of liquid leaking from the vehicle, and got even more scared that it would blow. Renae called her father, we told the car behind us what was going on, and I walked up to the drive thru window to tell the workers was was going on as well.
By this time, the smoking had stopped, the leaking had mostly stopped, and we still had the engine running. (Stupid, I know, but we just got outta there as fast as we could.)
I caught the attention of someone inside, he smiled and gave me a thumbs up, and ran out of sight. Moments later, he and another employee were outside asking what's wrong. We told them what happened, and they were more than happy to tell us to get in the car, put it in neutral, and they'd push us out of the drive thru.
They pushed us past the first window, and stopped at the second window.
"We figured you'd still want your food, so you can pay here and get it!"
These 2 workers are angels sent from the heavens above. Here we are, 2 teenage girls trying to have an adventure late at night, stuck at In & Out 20 minutes before they close, and these incredible workers go above and beyond to not only save our butts but also make sure we get our food.
So we get our food and they push us all the way out and into the parking lot, where they offered to let us "come inside where it's safer," until our ride came. We chose to stay in our car, but I cannot express enough gratitude to these 2 men who saved us today.
I don't know their names, but I'm sure if you asked, they'd have a fun story like this one to tell.
