The best explanation for no sex

I recently got my iud taken out and am now on my period for the first time in almost 4 years. I'm on day 3 now and I have been super horny but I didn't want my boyfriend to have to deal with my bloody vagina so I just didn't do anything about it. He finally brought it up today and I admitted  I was super horny but I didn't want him to have to deal with it and his reply was "it's just blood, I don't mind at all I just don't want you to have to deal with it. Also I didn't know if having sex with you while you're on your period would be uncomfortable for you, I don't want to hurt you" literally the best reason for not having sex with me ever.
